Today we want to talk to you about LinkedIn. Most of you have a LinkedIn profile. We have a few tips for how you can make your profile more attractive, help you gain more exposure, and attract more leads on LinkedIn.
1. Have a professional, updated headshot.
You knew we were going to say this! If you don’t have a profile picture at all you may not be accepted as a connection, because people may think your profile is spam. If you have an outdated headshot, or you’re using a picture that you took with your phone and cropped it, that just doesn’t give a professional image. Get a professional headshot photographer to take your picture. You’ll look professional, and you’ll get better results with your contacts. Of course, we are more than happy to take care of that for you!
2. Have a headline that lets people know what you actually do.
Some people try to out-think what they do and over-think their headline, so they come out with “Ninja of the Suburbs.” instead of just, “Realtor focused on helping buyers and sellers in Collin County” You want people to know exactly what you do when it comes to your headline. Will the average person understand what it is you actually do? My LinkedIn headline simply says “Professional Headshot Photographer.” The line under that says “Executive-Level Corporate Headshots at Your Location.” This way you know exactly what it is that I do, and when people are looking for a headshot photographer I’m easy to find. This headline is easily searchable. Don’t try to trick up your headline with fancy or slang terms—that just makes it harder for people to figure out what you do, and to find you in the first place!
3. Fill out everything in your profile.
Fill it all out completely. Make sure you have your summary updated, the groups you’re associated with, your education, your interests—everything. LinkedIn ranks profiles like search algorithms rank web pages, so the more complete your profile is the easier it will be to find.
4. Post regularly.
Posting regularly gets your profile seen more. You can share relevant articles, you can have your own organic posts—LinkedIn even allows you to post videos. You don’t have to post every day, but a couple of times a week will keep your name and image out there. “In sight, in mind”!
5. Ask for recommendations.
This is one of the hardest things for us business people to do, but ask for recommendations! If you gave someone incredible service and they’re thanking you and singing your praises, that’s the perfect time to ask them for a recommendation on LinkedIn. Believe it or not, before people hire you they are looking at your recommendations and your reputation. “Who else have they helped in the past? Are they qualified?”. When other people can vouch for you in a recommendation, that makes you look really great and can help you earn the business.
